Creating a Card...with Cards...and LGM!!

If you're a baseball fan or a New Yorker
(aka New YAWKER)...
like I am
you'll most likely know what LGM means.

And whats this "Creating a card....with Cards" stuff all about?
Well..I'll tell you about it right now..

Around our house...it's all about baseball this time of year
and so LGM (Let's Go Mets!) is heard almost daily.
My sweetheart is a passionate baseball fan.
Every fiber of his being dances with joy when Spring training starts
and the NY Mets are on the scene.
But for Gary...it's always baseball season ...
as he hosts his very popular podcast METS MUSINGS...
and co-hosts multiple other baseball podcasts a well.

Last month we went on a weeklong vacation to Cooperstown (Upstate, NY).
We stayed at my favorite motel ...right on the lake..
Starting and ending each day with magnificent tranquil sinuses and sunsets on Lake Otsego.
The week was all-about baseball...and nothing but baseball...
in Charming Cooperstown...a vintage  town...almost untouched by the passage of time...
The ENTIRE town is about baseball ...and nothing else
with the biggest attraction being
The Baseball Hal of Fame.

It thrilled me to have planned a trip that was truly for Gary...and his passion...
Gary...always puts Chelsea and I first.
Finally....I had the opportunity to do something for HIM!
To say it was a fantastic time isn't quite enough in describing our week together at Cooperstown.

And, it goes without saying that
No trip is complete without some shopping.
Gary picked up lots of baseball related things...(of course)
and...
guess what!!
I found something that I immediately knew I wanted to use for card making.
(I was so excited!!!)

So here it is...
My most recent card..
created with my Cooperstown "souvenir" find!

Yep....I created a card....with (playing) cards!
I picked up a few decks of cards..
Some sets were sets of cards with images of famous and memorable NY METS players
and some...were cards of NY Yankees players.

Being a METS fan, myself...
I thought that my first card should be a METS card..

I created this card in traditional NY METS colors...
I included a little bit of embossing with a nice star patterned embossing folder...
I did some stamping and die cutting for the sentiment banner.
Added some matting and layering...
and...
WHA-LA!!....I've got some nice guy-friendly and/or NY METS fan-friendly birthday cards!!

I love that the images are a bit charactature-ish
and also include some trivia about each player.
I chose to use the Mike Piazza card first...
Who doesn't LOVE Mike Piazza!
Is there a NY MET fan anywhere on the planet that wasn't beside themselves with joy
when he was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame last Summer????
I THINK NOT!

I  really enjoyed making this card ...
and thought that I'd make a few more..
some NY METS...and some NY YANKEES
The sketch is the same...
but for the Yankee cards...I used a darker blue card stock..whte and red...

So there you have it...
My cards...created with cards!

OH!
I almost forgot one other thing!
If you are a baseball lover...METS or otherwise...
check out Gary's web site and METS MUSINGS
and BASEBALL TALK RADIO Podcasts HERE

Have a wonderful day, my crafty and creative friends...
and...
LGM!
Michelle.

PS....My blog is all about my card making...
But I do have a few Cooperstown photos to share...
I'll post them below
If you'd like to take a peek...keep scrolling downward...

Posing with 2 greats
Babe Ruth and Ted Williams

Take me out to the ballgame....

My gift to Gary...
I had The  Cooperstown Bat Company make a custom baseball bat for Gary
with his portrait ...radio name (Gary Mack) and podcast logo on it.
Gary was thrilled....
(I was so excited about this!)
He's going to hang the bat on a display rack in his recording studio.

Here he is...
Gary Mack...and "the" bat
He was so excited when they presented it to him at the shop.
I was so excited to see him so excited!

It doesn't get much better than this.
Give me a place on a lake..or by the ocean...
and I am infinitely happy...and at peace.

We had THE BEST time...
We love this charming town that's been captured in time...
(We were checking out houses while we were there)
and yes...
that's me...strolling around town with my flashy red cane...
I tore up the ligament in my left knee two days before we left for our getaway...
so my accessory for the week was my bright red cane.

Thanks for taking a look at our photos...
It made me smile to look at them ...
I've got so many nice memories of our week spent at Cooperstown..
