Coloring Stamped Images ...on a Budget

If you're wanting to add BIG color to your stamped images...
but have a SMALL budget...
this quick little blog post has some info that you'll like...

First up....
Crayola Washable Markers
This Box also has some Gel markers in it..
along with some Window markers...
I only used the classic Washable Markers for coloring this card
Note: You can find washable markers in large packages of 50 markers (or more)
all over the place...at great prices
(craft store..big box stores...dollar stores etc)
My box of Crayolas...in the pic below...was 5.99
The Shimmer Water Color set in the black case was 4.99
and the Loew Cornell paint set in the white case was 6.99

For the Crayola-colored card...
The image was stamped out with waterproof ink...
onto water color card stock
The card stock was lightly misted with water...prior to painting
I scribbled the marker colors that I wanted to use on a large acrylic block...
and picked it up with a wet paint brush..
I was able to create some "new" colors by mixing two colors with droplets of water
and also by layering single colors directly to the image
The background painting of both cards was done by mixing multiple colors
both on the acrylic block..
and also by painting them directly onto the background area
(Note: the background area was prepared & made quite wet
by painting on a good amount of water with a larger paintbrush)

So...
what do you think?
If I didn't tell you...
would you know that this beautiful bloom and butterfly
were colored/painted with a budget friendly box of washable markers?

Next up...
the same image...
stamped out the same way...
card stock misted prior to painting...
and..
painted with the Loew Cornell paint set
(This LC set has some great colors)
After the image was colored..
I added a little bit of shimmer paint to the bloom
*This shimmer set also has some nice colors that have a great lightly colored glisten to them

I know that this super large photo will extend into the right side bar of this blog post...
but I wanted you to see the shimmer
(most visible in this image on the left of the bloom)

So...there you have it...
Coloring on a budget...

Thanks for visiting...
have a wonderful day...
Now go get out those unused washable markers that have in a drawer for ages...
and color/paint and image of your own!
Michelle.

  1. Wonderful! Although I'm sure your talent also plays a huge part in how well the coloring turned out. I'm quite sure mine would not turn out as pretty even using the same products. (Doesn't keep me from playing with them though. Ha ha! :). ) I've seen the markers before (just not as big of a box) but what section of the store did you find the paint sets in? Back to school/ office/ kids crafts section? Thanks for sharing. Your cards are so pretty!
