Day #5..Catherine Scanlon Designs Week...a New Release Stamp Set...and a Daily Giveaway

Hello my crafty and creative friends...
Welcome to Day #5 of Catherine Scanlon Week here at my blog.

and...
I'm both happy an excited about having lots to share with you today!

This being said...
I'm not going to chat a lot...
Because I really want to get right down to sharing the cards with you!

But first...
I want to give you a little bit of information.

Today...I am sharing 4 cards...
Similar...but different..
All were created with Catherine Scanlon Designs new  release stamp set
called HAPPY
You can find HAPPY HERE at the Art Gone Wild web site
You can also see more of Catherine's Designs and projects at her Instagram page HERE

All of today's cards were heat embossed.
And...all were water colored...in different ways.
(I'll note info about the water coloring and embossing with each photo, below)
I used an assortment of LCI metallic card stock colors for matting.
All of the background were also water colored
Okay..those are the basics.

And now..it's time to share some card pics with you.
(I have to say it now before I share the photos...I HAD THE BEST TIME creating today's cards!!)
I REALLY REALLY like this stamp set!
and..
I REALLY REALLY like to water color.

.
And now..it's time to share the card photos!

Card #1

The first card  was heat embossed with Sparkle n Sprinkle Fine Detail Gold Embossing Powder.
I used ZIG markers to water color the image.
I laid the marker color down on a tile and picked it up with a paint brush to water color the image.
For matting...I chose orange...and gold metallic card stock.
This image matted image layer...
and all of the other image layers on today's cards
were positioned with fun foam for a sturdy lift and added dimension.
I chose one of the sentiments from the HAPPY stamp set to complete this card

Here's a close up...

Card #2
I haven't done silver heat embossing  in a while...
So I go out some Tim Holtz Sterling Silver embossing powder ..
stamped the image...
heat embossed with this gorgeous silver embossing powder
and water colored this image with a combination of ZIG markers...
and Luminarte Twinkling H2Os
I chose  deep blue and white metallic card stock for matting.

and...
a close up
(I'm so glad that I used sterling silver embossing powder
for this blue version of this card.

Card #3
I love certain shades of blue and shades of brown together
and thought that I'd try that color combo with Lawn Fawn Rose Gold heat embossing.
In the end...I was thrilled with the result!
This image was water colored with Zig markers ( brown & green tones)
I also water colored his image with Luminarte Twinkling H2O's (blue..green and ivory colors )
I double matted using bronze metallic card stock and an icy blue metallic card stock.
The background was water colored with diluted Zig colors  .
I stamped and hand cut and water colored the sentiment banner.

I had to share a close up of this card so that you can see the shimmery water coloring
that is achieved with the H2Os.
I also found that by keeping enough water on the image...I was able to blend the H2Os and Zig water coloring together very nicely
You can see that blending on the blue and brown flower above the "H & A"

and...
the 4th and final card of today...
This version was water colored with a combination of Zigs
and Ken Oliver Color Bursts and Gansai Tombi Pearl Pastels
The 3 worked beautifully together ...allowing me to blend and create the colors that I wanted
The color density created with the Color Bursts is AMAZING!
I heat embossed this card as well (gold)
I chose deep purple and gold metallic card stock for matting
and added the word "birthday" to complete this card.

This close up speaks for WHY I LOVE to water color.
Look at those colors together with the gold embossing!
You can also see the background here
which was water colored with the Pearl Gansai Tombi Paints

I could have gone on and on and one creating cards with the HAPPY stamp set.
The image is beautiful...and unique, I think...with the HAPPY being part of the image
as opposed to a separate stamp.
The large detailed image is ideal for card makers like me...who have a love of water coloring.

I hope that you enjoyed seeing today's cards...as much as I enjoyed creating them!
Thanks for visiting today...
and I hope to see you tomorrow for Day #6 of Catherine Scanlon Week!

I love creating different looks with one stamp..usually with different ways of painting or coloring...and with different color palettes.
H2O's are a great way to create a shimmery shine...they've been a fave of mine for many many years...

  20. One quick question Michelle--I went to check out the LCI metallic card stock. There are so many different types and a see also a few brands--could you please share which is your favorite! Thanks!

    1. HI Lynn....When you go to the metallics section/page.....choose CARD STOCK in the first drop down menu option....
Then choose 81/2 x 11 in the next drop down menu...
      Choose ALL BRANDS
This will allow you to see Stardream...Curious...and GMUND (all of the color options across three different brands)
I like all 3 brands...there's a slight difference in feel ...barely noticeable...because the weights vary....BUT...for us...as card makers...all of the weights are fine...
The GMUND, for example goes between 92 and 133 lb weight...depending on the color...
The Stardream colors are all 105 lbs
Curious color are 92 or 111 lbs...depending on the color
      But as I mentioned...for us...for card making...(matting purposes)...all 3 of the brands are good....
(I have all of the colors that they offer...which means I have all 3 brands..all of the weights...and I love all of them

I have also bought the TEXT WEIGHT paper in almost al of the metallic colors for this reason:
IF I am doing double or triple metallic matting on a card...sometimes two or three layers of heavy metallic card stock is just too much...the card is too thick...too heavy...in addition to the image layer...
So I will use...for example...two card stock layers...and one text weight layer for matting.
Or...one card stock layer..and one text weight layer....
When these combos are put together with the image layer...the card is very hefty and feels great...
I hope that this info is helpful...
